    • De Flandria Generosa noemt "Mariam filiam Stephani regis Anglie" als vrouw van Mathieu. Ze wordt dochter van Koning Stephen genoemd door Matthew Paris, als hij haar huwelijk vastlegt. The Genealogica comitum Buloniensium noemt "Mariam abbatissam" als dochter van "Stephano, filio Stephani Blesensis comitis" en zijn vrouw Mathilde, waarbij hij aangeeft "Matheus filius Theoderici comitis Flandrensis, licet illicite, duxit abbatissam".
